21st Century After School Virtual Program Video
November 19, 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Emerson Middle School is proud to announce that we will be offering our very first virtual 21st Century Program this year. The goal of the 21st Century Program is to provide students and parents the opportunity to take part in a variety of academic and personal enrichment opportunities, both after school and during the summer. Student activities are designed to complement the daily school curriculum while also providing educational and personal development opportunities to parents and/or adult family members. Our first cycle of the program is set to begin on Monday, November 30th, and conclude on Friday, February 12th. The first cycle will run for 10 weeks and will meet Monday through Friday, from 3:00 pm until 4:30 pm. This year, we will offer an array of enrichment courses that include STEM, Mindfulness, Emerson Voice, Yoga, and Dance.
In addition to enrichment courses, the 21st Century Program will offer credit recovery courses for any student who received a failing grade of a 60 or below in any core courses in ELA, Math, Social Studies, or Science. In order for your child to receive full credit and remain active in their credit recovery course, they must maintain a passing grade of 65 or better while marking period 2 continues. During our credit recovery courses, teachers will provide explicit instruction in skill remediation, as well as assist with any current assignments that your child may have a difficult time understanding throughout the day in their classes. Attendance and participation are strongly encouraged throughout the cycle 1 session, therefore, any student that misses three or more classes will be removed from the program, so that other students have an opportunity to join. At the completion of the credit recovery course, if the student maintains a passing grade, their MP 1 grade will be adjusted and will reflect a passing score at the conclusion of the school year. Please note that once a student completes a credit recovery course, they will not have another opportunity to enroll in future credit recovery courses for this school year.
Student registration will take place via Google Classroom, and be made available on Friday, November 20th. Students will have the opportunity to register for enrichment courses or credit recovery courses that take place throughout the week. Please be sure that your child completes the registration form as soon as possible, as spaces are limited and spots will be filled on a first come first serve basis.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the main office, or you may email the 21st Century Site Manager at [email protected]. We look forward to working with you and supporting the students of Emerson Middle School.
Respectfully,
